Perfect revenge: SK dismantle Unicorns and win the Premier League

“When it was the Unicorns, I immediately caught a fire in me. Because I remembered what it felt like to lose 2:3 against them,” said Janik Bartels in the final. The bite of bitter bankruptcy in the spring was still deep. The challenger, accordingly, tackled the final duel of the Premier League’s Summer Split. The Rhinos reached the final by defeating Spandau 3-1 in the semi-finals. Buttlaner Johannes ‘Fun K3y’ Werner was also voted Player of the Summer. The unicorns lost out to the semi-finalists – but they were certainly expected in their hometown of Hamburg. The prospect of the “three peats” after spring 2023 and summer 2022 was also stimulating enough, however, there must be a catastrophe.

SK dominates at will – the only record holder “Keduii”

Because there was no tension in the final: SK Gaming won the first match in dominant fashion. Also in the second match, Colón’s team had great advantages early on. The unicorns got the Baron after 35 minutes, but soon after that they were forced to admit defeat. The last exclamation in the third game was also the final score 3: 0. Revenge turned into a show of strength – and SK gave the sport satisfaction.

Their bot Tim “Kidwe” Wheelers is the only record champion in the Premier League again. After a split last spring, he had to share that title with Unicorns coach Fabian ‘Sheepy’ Mallant. However, his third victory means regaining the undisputed first place – by the way, he celebrated his first two successes of 2021 with BIG.

Thanks to their participation in the final, SK Gaming and Einhorns also qualified for the main event of the EMEA Masters tournament. LoL-EM will open on August 21 with the start of the group stage. 16 teams from the European national championships are vying for the lion’s share of the €150,000 prize money. It is also an opportunity for players to qualify for a spot on the LEC roster.
