New VR gaming devices: Meta unveils Meta Quest 3

At Connect 2023, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the successors to the Meta Quest 2 and the Meta Smart Glasses. The Meta Quest 3 VR headset is available for pre-order now, while the Meta Smart Glasses are scheduled to be available from October 17.

Meta Quest 3, the successor to the successful Meta Quest 2, is now available for pre-order. Thanks to the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, standalone VR headsets are said to have not only become faster, but also lighter.

Additionally, the Meta Smart Glasses were unveiled in collaboration with Ray-Ban, which feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 processor and are said to offer impressive augmented reality.

Meta Quest 3 can be pre-ordered now for €549.99 and will be delivered starting October 10. For €699.99, buyers get the 512GB version and the game “Asgard’s Wrath 2” for free. They also get a free subscription to Meta Quest+ for half a year.

Meta Quest 3 is primarily aimed at gaming and is expected to introduce more than 100 new VR applications in the gaming, fitness and entertainment fields by the end of 2023. Among others, “The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners” was announced, and the game The royal move “POPULATION: ONE,” and the boxing and fitness app “Supernatural.” Starting in December 2023, Meta Quest 3 will also offer support for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The VR headset is said to impress with double the graphics performance compared to the Meta Quest 2 (formerly Oculus Quest 2) and a 30 percent improved display resolution of 1,218 ppi. The weight and wearing comfort are also said to be improved. With the help of the new lenses, the Meta Quest 3 is 40 percent thinner and provides glasses wearers with a better fit. The new Elite headband aims to ensure optimal wearing comfort and is available for €79.99. With battery it costs 149.00 euros.

In addition to virtual reality glasses, Zuckerberg introduced Meta Smart glasses developed in collaboration with Ray-Ban. These augmented reality glasses are said to be more advanced and attractive than previous models like Google Glass. The IP54 certified smart glasses will be available in select countries starting October 17 and will start at $299. Starting next year, the smart glasses will receive an update that will, among other things, enable Google Translate live in the front display.
