Multi-touch: Eyefactive develops object recognition for infrared touch displays

Object detection is now also possible on 86- and 98-inch displays. The technology newly developed by Eyefactive works on touchscreens equipped with infrared (IR) frames and corresponding identification chips.

Until now, object recognition on touch screens has been mainly implemented on capacitive displays. Thanks to the newly developed Eyefactive technology, it is now possible to recognize objects on touch screens using infrared frames.

Precision solutions as a partner

To recognize objects on multi-touch screens, they are recognized using so-called selection chips. It has now been specially adapted by Eyefactive to detect on touch screens using infrared technology. The tag chips are passive, so they do not require a battery for continuous operation. This technology can detect up to ten objects at the same time.

One advantage of capacitive touch screens is their smooth, flat surface, which is ideal for integration into interactive systems such as multi-touch tables or kiosk stations. With the slim infrared touch frame, the frame distance of this type of display is reduced to about 3mm. Partner company Exact Solutions integrates slim infrared touch frames in 86- and 98-inch display sizes. According to Eyefactive, these dimensions cannot yet be achieved using capacitive touch screens.

New thin infrared touch displays including corresponding object recognition technology are available directly from both Exact Solutions and Eyefactive. What is needed is a thin infrared display, a set of identification chips and corresponding applications, which can be obtained from the Eyefactive app store.
