Murcia, a municipality that accounts for 76% of Spanish lettuce exports, hosted the Lettuce Innovation Days, bringing together the main Spanish and international seedsCompanies, centers and experimental farms have opened their doors to farmers, technicians and professionals from all over the world to show the latest developments in lettuce and other leafy vegetables suitable for sale in fresh and processed form.

Companies such as BASF, Rijk Zwaan, Syngenta, Ramiro Arnedo, Meridiem Seeds, Bejo, Enza Zaden, Vilmorín or HM Clause have modern facilities in the agricultural regions of Murcia: Torre Pacheco and Cartagena, where they present new plant varieties, planting demonstrations, information days and conduct Tastings and other complementary activities.
For the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters of the Region of Murcia (Proexport), close cooperation between seed companies and producers in the country of origin is very important. And according to its director, Fernando Gomez, “Saddled with high costs and environmental constraints, farmers and agribusinesses demand high-quality varieties that also improve the profitability of this crop.”
