At Vacoma 2024, Leonard Curtis will present the further development of the “Hot Stamping Performance+” process and showcase the different possible uses in exterior design as part of a collaboration project with wheel manufacturer Ronal Group.

Air edge inserts for improved electronic movement
Specially designed flange inserts are intended to reduce air resistance, help increase EV range and reduce noise while driving. At the same time, the inserts transform the traditional light alloy bezel into a stunning visual appearance. “Many variations are possible, from the elegant look of real chrome to metallics in different colors to color gradations,” explains Luitpold Harlander, Business Head of Plastic Decoration Sales and Automotive Marketing Management at Kors. “This enables the design of individual vehicles – both for series models and in the aftermarket sector.”

Effective technology in the spirit of sustainability
According to Kors, the wide range of design variations was made possible through the further development of the “Hot Stamping Performance+” process. A vacuum is created to pull the hot stamping foil into the two-part stamping tool. “On the one hand, this means that we can dispense with the preheating that was previously necessary, ensuring significant energy savings and increased efficiency,” adds Luitpold Harlander. “On the other hand, environmentally harmful chromium (VI) is not used, as with conventional electroplating – and CO2 emissions are also reduced. Last but not least, this technology is ideal for using recycled materials and guarantees a lower rejection rate.” Visitors to Fakuma 2024 can get an impression of the process for themselves: the edge inlays will be decorated directly at the Kurz stand. The demonstrations are taking place on a Geba 8/1S, developed by Kurz subsidiary Baier.

3D geometry and 3D effects
In addition to technological improvement, Curtis also developed the process further at the design level. The patented, series-capable “Hot Stamping Performance+” process is better suited to improving components with 3D geometries and also allows for more design variations. New 3D effects that create the impression of visual depth and movement will be on display for the first time at Vacoma 2024. Several exhibits at the Kurz stand show the diverse design options that Kurz is introducing for the first time with the Ronal collection at Vacoma 2024.
