Mezzo-soprano Katharina Kammerlohr focuses prominently on the songs of French composer Cecilla Chaminade.
Cécile Chaminade’s work still does not get the attention it deserves. From time to time, in addition to concertinos for flute and orchestra, you can hear some of her piano pieces, but her song composition is still largely unknown. This mezzo-soprano composition by Katharina Kammerlohr is even more commendable, as it shows Chaminade as a first-rate songwriter. It’s not just Kammerlander’s captivatingly dramatic idea to distill some sort of annual love track out of 125 songs. Like spring, butterflies flutter in your stomach, before love intoxication intensifies in summer and more thoughtful notes are struck in autumn and winter, and the focus and vocal variety with which you sing are simply wonderful. In addition, Johann Blanchard accompanies it in a very nice way and the recording quality of the Hybrid SACD is outstanding.
