Joni Mitchell performs at the Grammys for the first time

The Recording Academy and CBS announced Sunday that Joni Mitchell will perform at the first-ever televised Grammy Awards on February 4.

Mitchell has won nine Grammy Awards in the past, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy in 2002. She is nominated this year for what would be her 10th Grammy Award, for Best Folk Album, for her 2023 release of the Brandi Carlile-produced “Johnny.” Mitchell in Newport [Live]”.

No details about next Sunday's performance were immediately provided. But it comes on the heels of a gradual return to live shows that Mitchell has performed in the past two years — three concerts in which Brandi Carlile and other friends joined her in “Johnny Jam” party bands.

Many assumed that Mitchell had retired from public performances after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015. The CBS Grammys will be broadcast live coast-to-coast from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 4, starting at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
