In Locatelli’s concertos, violinist Isabelle Faust, accompanied by L. Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini, shows how at home she was in the early music.
Pietro Antonio Locatelli (1695-1764) is described as an 18th-century Paganini in the new CD pamphlet recorded by Isabelle Faust and Il Giardino Armonico under the direction of Giovanni Antonini. and Concerti Op. 3 No. 2 and 11 with sparkling brilliance. Although Faust appeals not only to early music, but to the entire stylistic range of violin literature, she feels remarkably comfortable in this repertoire. It is accompanied by the strings and the colorful continuo (theoro, harp, organ, harp) of the Baroque ensemble, which has existed since 1985, in an expressive and delicate way. Concerti Grossi Op. 1 No. 11 and op. No. 7 No. 6 shows another side of Locatelli: the focus here is not on breathtaking technical virtuosity, but on music so exhilarating and deeply felt by all.
