If humility is an ornament, should this also apply to calmness? Many people feel overwhelmed and stressed, at least from time to time, and almost everyone longs for times of peace and quiet amidst all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Board games often provide good opportunities for relaxation and balance. And if they still make room for shared experiences and mutual support, then everything is usually fine anyway. After all, we are strong together, and as we all know, there is strength in calm. If the game is called In All Peace, the harmony and overall satisfaction couldn't be greater.
But be careful, if you don't pay attention and participate until the end, you risk failing early in the work of James Emerson (The Boardgame Hub/Asmodee). Because even with a game like In All Peace, a lot can go wrong, and that quickly becomes apparent. what a shame! What a commitment and what tension.
What is the calm game?
The cute little card set in the cute square box is not to be underestimated. It contains a large selection of beautiful playing cards, most of which are beautifully designed island cards, numbered consecutively from 1 to 80.
They must be arranged in ascending order in a 6×6 grid, where we all take turns playing one of our only five cards and are not allowed to say anything about the numerical values of the remaining cards. Once someone can't play the rising card and there are still gaps in the screen, everyone loses the game together and the peace is over.
In peace and quiet, performances set off with variations and leaps
What is especially interesting is that it is not necessary to place the cards in a row. Alternatively, I can easily place an average card value somewhere in the middle of the grid if I'm lucky. However, if you later want to place another card next to it, the difference in numerical values must be placed in the hand cards. These cards and numbers may be lost later when the network is completed. It is easily possible to move between values (after all, numbers up to 80 and not just up to 36 are available to fill the 6×6 grid), as long as the cards are placed in ascending order.
Very peaceful and friendly atmosphere
This is a calm and peaceful game of ignore with no potential for conflict. Of course, later you can think out loud whether this or that card was useful and useful. However, at the moment of playing, there was a lack of additional clues and information, which is why no one could tell how the game and the entire network would develop. Therefore, even these ideas and possible discussions cannot change the friendly mood at the table.
The path is the goal
The rest is said quickly. In addition to the correct row of cards in the grid, there are also special departure and arrival cards, one of which must be added at the right time. It is also important when it falls into someone's hands and how it is played after that. Additionally, small expansions and game variants already included in the game can be tried out if additional (even small) challenges and some variety are desired.
In peace and quiet it is rather unspectacular
However, all this cannot make the game any more calm, not to mention uniform or even somewhat boring. It quietly lives up to its name and meets the expectations placed on it, but nothing more. Maybe the breath of fresh air wasn't so out of place after all? We probably wouldn't know.
