How to Enable the Hidden End Task Button in Windows 11 – Livedoor News

Windows 11 has a feature that lets you end tasks directly from the taskbar and delete apps open in multiple windows at once, but it’s turned off by default. IT news site BleepingComputer explains how to enable this so you can right-click to close multiple windows at once, or end unresponsive programs without using the Task Manager.

Windows 11 Taskbar Has Hidden End Task Feature, How To Turn It On

When you have multiple windows open in a browser like Chrome, a “Close Window” button will appear when you right-click on the window on the taskbar, but this function will only close the window you right-click on. The function that clears all of these items at once is “End Task.”

To enable this feature, which is disabled by default, first open Settings from the Windows menu, then click System and then For Developers.

You can enable it by running End Task.

Once enabled, End Task will be displayed when you right-click an application on the taskbar.

I was able to close all multiple Chrome windows by clicking “End Task”.

According to BleepingComputer, this feature uses the Task Manager's kill function, and in Chrome it's possible to clear all processes with the same name, such as “chrome.exe.”

Therefore, not only can you clear multiple windows at once, but even if a program freezes and becomes unresponsive, you can close it with a single right-click without having to open Task Manager.
