With the update to ChromeOS 129, Chromebooks can now use Google Lens to search for photos from the built-in Gallery app. This feature was discovered in May of this year and is now finally available.

Chrome browsers, including ChromeOS, have had a built-in Google Lens feature available for some time, which appears to the right of the address bar. [Google レンズ] Press the 3 dot button or menu[︙]By accessing from, you can easily search for images displayed in the open tab.

You can now search with Google Lens directly from your Chromebook's built-in Gallery app. This feature works on the latest ChromeOS 129, and can be used by simply opening a file from the Files app in the Gallery app. It doesn't matter what type of file you have, as long as you view it in the Gallery app, you can search for it using Google Lens.

It's easy to use, open the file in the Gallery app and choose from the top menu. [Google レンズで検索] Click the button (familiar icon) to select the range, and once selected, it will be displayed in the center of the area. [Google レンズで検索] Click the button again.

Your browser will then open and display the search results, just as you would with Google Lens.

This is very useful if you want to open a downloaded file and use Google Lens. However, in the case of a Chromebook, I think you'll be working mostly with files in the cloud, so for example, you could open a file from Google Drive in your browser and use the browser's built-in search function for Google Lens.

However, you can now use Google Lens for any file that can be opened in the Gallery app, making it even more convenient by letting you search for lenses in the cloud and locally.
