Jury German Book Prize, through which the Foundation for Book Culture and the Promotion of Reading of the German Book Trade Association awards the “Best Novel in the German Language” in the past twelve months at the start of the Frankfurt Book Fair, published the six shortlisted titles on September 19. 2023. 20 titles were previously shortlisted and presented to the public on August 22, 2023. A total of 172 novels were submitted this year by 111 publishers.
This year’s jury consists of Sheila Bhagat (ZDF/Arte), Heinz Droege (Goethe University Frankfurt), and Melanie Moll (had won), Lisa Schumacher (Steinmetz’sche Buchhandlung, Offenbach), Katharina Teich (had won), Florian Valerius (Backlight Library, Trier) and Matthias Weischelt (Editor-in-Chief Meaning and form).
