Dolphin, which launched in 2003 as a Nintendo GameCube and Wii emulator, has announced its first major update in eight years since the release of “Dolphin 5.0” on June 24, 2016. With this update, Dolphin boasts that it has “successfully removed the core bugs that have plagued it for over a decade, and advanced it into a new era of precision and performance.”

The features of Dolphin 5.0, released in June 2016, are summarized in the article below.

Latest GameCube and Wii Emulator “Dolphin 5.0” Released After 3 Years – GIGAZINE

Dolphin 5.0 was released eight years ago, but that doesn’t mean that Dolphin hasn’t been updated in that time. Dolphin is constantly being updated, implementing new features, fixing bugs, and improving stability. Also, due to constant updates, the number of titles that can’t run properly on Dolphin can be counted on one hand.

Although there has been no major release since Dolphin 5.0, development has been very active during that time. In fact, the total number of commits since Dolphin 5.0 is around 22,000, which is more than half of the commits made during the entire development period of Dolphin. Even though upgrades are delivered frequently, users expect major releases.

Dolphin has announced that it will implement a new release cycle that builds on its highly successful beta releases by releasing a new version every few months and reporting changelogs and development progress. Dolphin 2407 is the latest release from Dolphin that has adopted a new release cycle. As for the reason for the big change in the version number from “5.0” to “2407,” Dolphin said: “The new release cycle is radically different from the previous release method, so the new Dolphin version number will change with each release. “Although it will increase, we have decided to go with something that represents a significant departure from the previous release numbers.”

In the new version number, the first two digits represent the “year of release” and the second two digits represent the “month of release”. The latest version will be released in July 2024, so the version number is assigned to “2407”.

With the release of Dolphin 2407, the Dolphin logo has also been upgraded to a new logo. The new Dolphin logo is on top, and the old Dolphin logo is on the bottom.

The new Dolphin logo was designed by MayImilae, the designer of the old logo and author of the official Dolphin blog. Regarding the old and new logos, he said: “The Dolphin logo was released in 2013 and was designed during the transition to the new version, which is why Mario’s silly peace sign is gone, and instead it’s sharp, edgy, serious and modern. It represents its future as a full-fledged simulator and now we can say that Dolphin is a mature simulator: a stable, confident and welcoming simulator, which makes the logo design more timeless. “We wanted to make it more fun, more colorful, cuter and fatter.”

As MayImilae describes the new logo as “more colorful,” the new logo was designed with multiple shapes in mind and will appear in a variety of styles and colors.
