From games to fun – 70 years of Consumenta in Nuremberg

With pedal karts in the pump track, e-sports or in the gaming world, Consumenta wants to attract young people in particular to the exhibition halls in Nuremberg. Visitors ages 12 and up can test their skills in popular games like Minecraft on Playstation Gaming Cubes and participate in daily tournaments.

Consumer trade fair Consumenta celebrates its anniversary

Consumenta celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. For a week, the Nuremberg exhibition center will once again transform into a large consumer world. Until November 3, about 900 exhibitors will present a variety of products, services and information in the exhibition halls.

A varied program awaits visitors in nine halls of the Nuremberg Exhibition Center. Topics range from living, furnishing, building and renovating to travel and mobility, gaming and technology as well as fashion, beauty, health and enjoyment.

Regional diversity of Franconia

In addition to regional businesses, businesses, restaurateurs, farmers and direct marketers, regions and cities also present themselves and show their diversity. These include the Nuremberg Urban Region, the Bavarian Farmers' Association, the Middle Franconia Region, and the Bavarian Forest Management Forestry and Timber Network.

Looking over the researchers' shoulders

Researchers from Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg provide insights into their current work on an exhibition area of ​​more than 300 square metres. For example, using the term “motion,” students showed that LEDs are 10 times more efficient than traditional light bulbs. Visitors test this on bicycles, because in order to make the light bulb light up, they have to pedal much harder than with LEDs.

Highlights of the trade show

Highlights of this year's Consumenta include Nuremberg Fashion Week with daily fashion shows and cooking demonstrations. Pet Fair (01.03.11.24), Car & Style (31.10.-3.11.24) and spirits event “Gin and Friends” will also be organised. On the first weekend, the IENA Invention Fair takes place in parallel (16-28 October 2024).

From the “shopping bag” to the consumer

At the start of the anniversary of the Consumenta Festival on Saturday, shopping bags filled with coupons and goodies will be distributed to the first 5,000 visitors. Consumenta began as a home economics fair in the 1950s under the name “The Shopping Bag,” and even then visitors could win filled shopping bags. Additional thematic worlds were not added until the 1970s and with the reorganization the name “Consumenta” was added.

With around 200,000 visitors and nearly 1,000 exhibitors, Consenta is the largest trade fair of its kind in Bavaria.
