“Yajiuma no Mori” covers a wide range of topics that are not limited to news and reviews.

Tabletop RPG scenario “The Lost Universe” released by NASA

NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is releasing its first tabletop role-playing (TRPG) scenario, “The Lost Universe,” for free. Why NASA? Although this question still remains, the content is authentic and surprising.

The story is a science fiction work set on the starless planet Xlaris, where the characters become adventurers who pursue the disappearance of astronomers and the mystery of the disappearing Hubble Space Telescope, deepening their knowledge of the universe and solving mysteries. .

TRPG is an analog game in which the player plays a character and develops the story through conversations and decisions. A facilitator called the Game Master (GM) sets the stage for the story, and players create their own characters. You can act freely in the story provided by the GM by making decisions using dice. TRPGs such as “Dungeons & Dragons” have been very popular in the United States for a long time, and TRPGs such as “Cthulhu Mythos TRPG” and “Sword World 2.5” are also very popular in Japan.

“The Lost Universe” scenario is designed for a group of 4 to 7 people, consisting of characters from level 7 to 10, and is a complete work that can be easily adapted to the player's favorite TRPG system. In this scenario, astronomical knowledge such as gravitational lensing, redshift, and blueshift will be applied to the actual mission.

The beginning of the scenario. The PDF file is available in English and is 44 pages long, representing a significant amount of text.

The documents needed to play the game are available for free, but it is true that the entire text is in English and there is a large amount of text, which is a big hurdle. However, since it is a TRPG released for free by NASA, it might be interesting to try it out.
