In particular, the new AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor with Zen4 architecture, 16 cores and 64MB L3 cache occupies the top ratings in many disciplines. With a maximum power consumption of 125W, it is well below some of its competitors in terms of resource requirements.
Asus has built its core gaming stuff around this CPU. In addition to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 we tested, the smaller RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 models are also available. The 17-inch screen offers QHD resolution and very realistic color representation. And above all, it achieves a frame rate of 240Hz.
There is no shortage of small touches or lighting effects. The RGB keyboard and the by no means obtrusive lighting strip under the keyboard frame can be freely adjusted or, if desired, adapted to sensor values, music or content display.
Overall, this results in a quite compelling gaming laptop on core points that could outpace current Intel CPUs or even the RTX 3080 Ti in many of our benchmarks.
Economical with extras
In addition, there has been less investment where performance is not affected in games. From its poor HD camera to slow connections, the device is unconvincing.
Weaknesses won’t bother us while gaming, but the versatility that strong system performance brings is somewhat limited.
Our detailed review of the Asus ROG Strix G17 G713PI-LL005W shows what else worked, or didn’t, done very cleanly.
I’ve been using computers since 1989 and an Intel 8086. I also know the internet before college and university networks were pushed out by corporations and social media. The fascination with technological leaps and social influences has not left me. My greatest interest is in the classic PC in particular—never less so in the laptop, where components must fit within scant space and power. So it seems logical that I have been writing technical manuals and product presentations since 2015. My physics studies provide the necessary background knowledge and understanding of connections.
