The privacy of its customers is one of Apple’s priorities, and in this sense, the technology began operational at the beginning of the year. App Tracking Transparency (ATT), which is integrated into iOS 14.5 and requires users permission to collect data. Thus, rules were created to prevent applications from collecting certain information.
As expected, Facebook and other similar applications quickly showed their dissatisfaction because they would lose business and data that is considered important to the normal functioning of their site. Despite being legally installed, there have been rumors for some time that Facebook and Snapshot may collect data without users’ permission.
By confirming that Facebook and Snapshot are actually collecting data from users, it was recently discovered that there is a flaw in app tracking. Application “legally established.Data cannot be retrieved from a device for the purpose of unique identification“. Thus, the data collection has been carried out without any consent, without knowing the name.
According to a statement issued Financial Times, Companies such as Snapshot and Facebook are “allowed to continue sharing information about iPhone users as long as the data is anonymous and integrated, rather than linked to specific user profiles.”
Meanwhile, Snapshot has already announced that it plans to sell “data from 306 million users to advertisers”. Facebook is trying to find ways to continue to collect data despite all obstacles.
So, even though the iPhone has settings on the operating system that prevent users from tracking their information, perhaps some applications can access their data even without this knowledge.
Apple has to establish new rules to deal with this situation as the number of unhappy users will increase in the future.
