Elīna Garanča presents a “poetry album” containing contradictions, inner peace and composure.
The “concept album” seems too cliched for a list of songs that should only be listened to in their intended order. The recordings, produced from October 2022 to February 2023 in Riga, Berlin and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, do not note that they were made in the shadow of Elena Garanca's debut in the extreme roles of Kundry and Amneris. What's Special: Intimate orchestral and instrumental ensembles change to accompany Garancha's “Hymns to the Night” until it ends with an a cappella song and a hum. Garanča sings softly, charmingly and with a winning ground. There are also some lullabies in the original collection with many favorite pieces from their homeland in Latvia. In the evening bliss of “Hansel and Gretel” she sings both voices using an overdub process. A “poetry album” characterized by contrasts, inner peace and composure – and not just for Garanča fans.
