Electreon, an Israeli company that specializes in inductive, i.e., wireless, charging of electric vehicles, is merging with automaker Toyota and auto supplier Denso. Partners want to develop vehicle-side technology for dynamic inductive charging.

Specifically, based on Electreon technology, work will be carried out on a retrofit solution for wireless charging of existing electronic vehicles and the integration of technology into new vehicles, and inductive charging standardization of electronic vehicles should also be developed. The focus should be on developing combinations of vehicles. Then a joint pilot project is planned in Japan, the United States or the European Union.

The Israelis said that the agreement follows a technical evaluation at the Beit Yanai headquarters, in which technical teams from Toyota and Denso participated. Among other things, Toyota’s RAV4 hybrid SUV has been wirelessly charged on the road. In the next few months, the three companies want to reach a detailed agreement on joint development activities.

“Not only can it eliminate the hassle of charging, but it can also help reduce the battery size required in an electric vehicle or increase relative range,” Toyota said of the proposed dynamic wireless charging technology. The company also believes that the technology will distribute energy demand more evenly, which “reduces pressure on the power grid and facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources.”

Oren Ezer, CEO and co-founder of Electreon, believes that the new partnerships will bring wireless charging “to a wide range of drivers and will leverage the many advantages of wireless charging as a cost-effective and clean solution for charging electric vehicles, as well as a catalyst for… a proven carbon footprint reduction.” for electronic vehicles.
