Odors that have migrated into the material can only be adequately removed using previous recycling processes. With IR-Fresh, Kreyenborg has developed a technology that can be used to significantly reduce odors in granules and re-grinds.

IR-Fresh is a modular security system Effectively reduce odors in plastics. In the first process step, the material is rapidly and directly heated to the optimum temperature level for the respective plastic by means of an infrared radiator unit installed on top of the material layer. The continuous rotation of the cylinder ensures a homogeneous flow of mass with a specified time (first in, first out principle).

Due to the rotating and mixing elements incorporated in the helixes, the material in the cylinder is continuously mixed with constant surface exchange. Combined with controlled heating, this ensures that the odor is significantly eliminated within a very short period of time.

Odorless substances are removed thermally and physically

In the second process step, the odorous substances remaining in the ground goods or granules are removed through a physical thermo-cleaning process in the IR-Fresh conditioner. This is an insulated container that uses hot gas for disinfection to keep the material to be disinfected within an optimum temperature range for the decontamination process.

Very good results in deodorization and decontamination can be achieved through the interaction of the main process parameters of air flow, temperature and residence time. Due to the modular structure, the IR-Fresh process can be used continuously in two stages for re-grinding – in turn before the extrusion process – and for pellets after the extrusion process. It is also possible to integrate the air conditioner into the process chain as a single process step, or to run it continuously or discontinuously as a stand-alone solution.

Custom and Retrofit Technology

The system presented is also suitable as a file Retrofit solution for integration into existing systems. Together with users, the company develops a solution tailored to the individual process of the user.

The company’s Plastics Technology Center located at the company’s headquarters in Senden has the appropriate equipment for tests tailored to specific needs. Important tests can be performed here on a laboratory scale of a few kilograms, as well as on large-scale real-world tests.
