Valve’s continued development for Steam will soon highlight support for PlayStation’s DualSense and DualShock controllers. Compatibility for these controllers will be clearly mentioned on the store and library pages from October.
This is according to a blog post aimed specifically at developers, which reveals, among other things, that of the 87 million Steam users who have played a game with a console at least once, about 27 percent — up from 11 percent in 2018 — have used Either DualShock for PS4 or DualSense for PS5.
To accommodate these users, developers are now required to fill out a questionnaire that automatically rates the DualShock/Sense compatibility of the game based on the answers provided. Players can expect the results of these questions to be displayed clearly on the store pages. “Once game developers have had an opportunity to review the new console support survey and input updated controller support,” Valve explains in its announcement blog, “we will show players this new information.”

Starting in October, Steam updates will provide icons and messages that clearly indicate when and to what extent a game supports DualShock and DualSense controllers. It will also be easier to find games that support a PlayStation controller when browsing, to see if a game in your current library has support, and to determine if the game requires a controller to play.
Valve hasn’t announced an exact date for these changes, but says the next update is coming “soon.”
Steam has realized that more and more gamers are using DualSense and DualShock controllers from PlayStation. Starting in October, the platform will clearly label support for this console and give developers the opportunity to confirm the compatibility of their games.
This is not only a convenience for users, but also a sign of the importance of listening to gamers’ needs. Steam makes the gaming experience easier and more intuitive than ever. Stay tuned for these exciting changes and enjoy your games with your favorite consoles!
