The DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB-C hub previously offered by DOCKCASE was a gimmicky hub that allowed you to check information about connected devices on the screen, but this time we will also be introducing the most advanced DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C hub since I received it that I would like to review.

③ and ④ are the same as USB 2.0 (480Mbps) ports. At the time of writing this article, the author's environment contained a few USB-A devices, but most have moved to USB-C devices.
So, personally, I prefer the USB-C port over the USB-A port. Of course, this depends on each individual environment, so if you still have a lot of USB-A devices, you may need a USB-A port instead of a USB-C port.
DOCKCASE 10-in-1 USB-C Hub Review
Dramatic design
When I opened the DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C package that arrived, my eyes were immediately drawn to the design that warmed a man's heart.
First of all, the left and right sides of the transparent plastic surface are made of tempered glass, and the design allows you to see the base inside. This design is sure to be irresistible to people who love mechanical design.
When there are 10 ports, it can be hard to know which is which, but the ports around this clear tempered glass are printed with letters so you can see the speed and specs.
Although the previous DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB-C has a simple and elegant design, it looks a bit messy compared to the elegant design, but I think it is easier to understand in terms of recognizing the ports without hesitation.
Rotating display
What interested me about the DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB-C is that information about connected devices, temperature, etc. can be displayed on the screen, and the DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C Hub does that as well. .
Moreover, this screen also has the ability to change the viewing direction.
I use a laptop at home or in the office, and when I connect the DOCKCASE 10-in-1 USB-C hub to my MacBook Pro, it can become difficult to see the screen depending on the orientation it's plugged in.
However, by double-tapping the switch connected to the center, you can change the direction to any of the four directions: up, down, left, or right.
By the way, the switch allows you to view details and change settings, but I personally feel it's just a bonus.
Regardless, I'm glad that features like screen rotation are a nice touch.
Heat dissipation effect of aluminum alloy
The previous DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB-C was covered with a zinc alloy case, but this time it is an aluminum alloy case.
This time, we checked the heat dissipation effect in the following environment.
Environment transportation ① | |
---|---|
Move the source | MacBook Pro 14-inch model 2021 |
Shipping destination | USB hub SD card slot The SD card uses a Lexar SD Card Professional 2000x SDXC UHS-II |
Transport ability | About 45 GB |
Transportation time | About 4 minutes |
Display the temperature on the hub screen | U.P.: 55°C before and after |
I touched the USB-C hub with my hand during and after the transfer, but it didn't feel that hot.
②Environmental transportation | |
---|---|
Move the source | MacBook Pro 14-inch model 2021 |
Shipping destination | USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port. Using an external SSD SanDisk SDSSDE81-4T00-GH25 |
Transport ability | About 191 GB |
Transportation time | About 3 minutes and 20 seconds |
Display the temperature on the hub screen | UP: 49°C before and after,BD: 41°C before and after |
I touched the aluminum alloy with my hand during and after transferring with the USB-C hub, and I didn't feel that heat.
This time I tried a slightly more difficult transfer method.
The previous DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB C got around 65°C when connected to a 27-inch 4K monitor with a 60Hz refresh rate, but it's safe to say it gets about the same temperature.
When I actually touched the aluminum alloy case, I was wondering whether the aluminum alloy could suppress the temperature to a greater extent, but it was only “slightly suppressed”, and felt a little hot.
This is just a feeling value as there is no environment to measure it in the same environment, but I think the conclusion is that it gets very hot when used in difficult ways like transferring data between hub ports.
LAN port for high-speed access
At home, I connect my laptop to the Internet via a wired LAN instead of Wi-Fi. This is because it provides faster and more stable connections than Wi-Fi.
When creating this article, I took a look at the review article for the DOCKCASE 7 in 1 USB C Hub, and it mentioned the following.
If I'm greedy, I'd like a LAN port.
The DOCKCASE 10-in-1 USB-C hub also has a port for wired LAN connectivity. This is arguably the model that comes with the LAN port that I wanted.
The image below shows the actual speed test comparison. Obviously using the wired LAN of the DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C hub is faster.
If you are in an environment that requires a high-speed connection, such as watching videos, uploading or downloading large files, or playing games online, we definitely recommend connecting using a wired LAN port.
USB 3.2 Gen 2 port for high-speed transfer
This hub has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. One is USB-C and the other is USB-A.
Regarding the previously mentioned data, the table below shows the data transferred from the MacBook Pro to the SanDisk SDSSDE81-4T00-GH25 external SSD by inserting it into the hub's USB-C port.
Transportation environment | |
---|---|
Move the source | MacBook Pro 14-inch model 2021 |
Shipping destination | USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port. Using an external SSD SanDisk SDSSDE81-4T00-GH25 |
Transport ability | About 191 GB |
Transportation time | About 3 minutes and 20 seconds |
Display the temperature on the hub screen | UP: 49°C before and after,BD: 41°C before and after |
About 191GB of data is transferred in about 3 minutes and 20 seconds, so it is recommended for those who want a high transfer speed.
By the way, I didn't know this until after writing this article, but the way to tell the difference between USB 3 and 2 is that the black plug is USB 2, and the blue plug is USB 3.
Ideal for laptops that only have two USB-C ports
I usually use my MacBook Pro for both work and private purposes, but for work I also use Microsoft's Surface Laptop Studio, which only has two USB-C ports and an SD card, and no slots or HDMI, which can often be inconvenient .
Like the MacBook Air, it only has two USB-C ports. There must be times when you feel like this is not enough. In that sense, I feel like this is a great hub for laptops that only have two USB-C ports.
Environments where the DOCKCASE 10-in-1 USB-C hub is not suitable
There are also unfavorable environments.
My computer environment has changed significantly over the past year or two.
I usually use the MacBook Pro, which has three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and an SD card slot.
The screen is not a MacBook Pro screen, but rather a Dell U2723QE screen as an external screen.
The U2723QE also has multiple USB ports and LAN cable connection ports, and the best part is that by simply plugging in a single USB-C cable, you can eject, charge, and access high-speed wired LAN from an external monitor. It has already been achieved.
So, unfortunately, for me, the DOCKCASE 10-in-1 USB-C Hub will only be used at most when I'm out and about and not in the same environment as my home or work. In general, most monitors have an HDMI output, so there are times when this is necessary.
If there was a port I wanted on this hub, it would be one that could read and write CFexpress Type B memory cards.
This is because I sometimes take photos for work, and in addition to the SD card slot, the camera also has a CFexpress Type B slot that allows reading and writing data at high speed, I usually use this CFexpress Type B card to take photos, and that's because I do that.
Update via firmware update
With modern devices connected to the Internet, it has become common to improve devices through firmware updates.
There is a similar description in the manual for this hub, so if anything happens, it might be a good idea to be able to fix it with a firmware update.
People who recommend DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C hub
The review is roughly as follows, but I think the DOCKCASE 10 in 1 USB-C Hub is recommended for the following people.
- I love gimmicks and mecha, and I love that kind of design.
- I want a USB port for high speed data transfer.
- Ordinary USB hub devices are not enough
- I would like to have fast and stable access using a wired LAN instead of Wi-Fi.
- There are only two USB-C ports
- I want to know simple information about the device connected via USB.
- I want an SD card slot for use with mirrorless cameras, etc.
