The dream of all advertising companies is to put ads that follow us in our dreams. New technology could soon make this possible. in the so-called Targeted Dream Incubation (TDI) Brand or product audio stimuli or images are used to evoke specific images during sleep. Targeted Intervention in Dreams: From Science Fiction to Reality
Doctor. Deirdre Barrett, a professor at Harvard University who worked on the Coors pilot project by developing a targeted nursery for dreams, says the following on the topic:
“I completely agree with the basic principle expressed in the letter: the absolute moral inadmissibility of unconscious passive advertising at night, with or without our permission,” said the professor, but he nevertheless “disappointed” from the company’s terminology used in advertising.
She mentioned terms such as “targeted dream incubation” or “dream implantation,” which are very similar to “science fiction or military mind control experiments.”
Scientific demand for “new preventive measures”
However, the researchers note, “the potential for misuse of these technologies is as concerning as it is clear.” They therefore urge the authorities to “take urgently needed new preventive measures”, as they emphasize:
TDI’s ad isn’t a funny gimmick, but a serious business with real consequences.
The effect on dreams in order to sell products raises important ethical questions. It seems more interesting to be able to see your dreams as a movie soon.
