The number of electronic components in vehicles is constantly increasing. This makes vehicle components more susceptible to interference from electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, new products are checked for electromagnetic compatibility in the early stages of development been tested. For corresponding measurements, Brose has been operating the EMC test center in Würzburg for eight years, which was expanded in 2018. The supplier has now invested a total of about 1.5 million euros to double the laboratory’s capacity. In the future, ten employees can take up to six measurements in parallel.
New in the laboratory, which has been expanded to 450 square metres, there are two additional metal-protected absorber chambers where tests are performed with high field strength of up to 200 volts per meter and 1,000 watts of transmitting power on a high-performance antenna. The supplier also installed a new electrostatic discharge measuring station and two new chambers in which the effect of interference pulses on the electronics could be tested.
