The magic of word games seems unbroken. In particular, “Just One”, which was named “Game of the Year” in 2019, brought this genre back into the spotlight. There could be many reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that the games can be customized for almost any game group. Each playgroup associates different experiences with different terms, revealing old memories and inside jokes that make you remember. Less is more now wants to face competition of this kind and fight for a place in the sun with its own touch. But what does the game bring and can it use it to achieve its goals?

Information about the game

The Ravensburger provided us with a “less is better” catchphrase to review.
This has no effect on our rating!

This is what the game is about

In Less is Most, people have to paraphrase a word using as few letters and words as possible so that the guesser can figure out the term. At first a word card is drawn, in which the person making the guess can choose between three different levels of difficulty (of course without having any idea of the words on the card). While the green word is easiest, the pink word on the card is the hardest, but if it is guessed, it also scores the most points.

The word declared difficulty now appears for guides, who are now thinking about how to paraphrase the word. Almost anything is allowed as long as it only contains 26 letters of the alphabet and does not contain a root word for the term in question. If the word holiday had to be paraphrased, Person A could write terms such as “sun, summer, sea” or whole sentences such as “I’ve booked.”

The little thing is that when you type it, you can also shorten any characters you think are unnecessary. For example, “Sonne, Sommer, Meer” could become “Sone, Somr, Mer” and “I booked” could become “I booked.” If the proof is recorded on your own screen, all the characters used will be added and recorded as a number on the back of the screen.

When everyone writes their number, the screens containing the number are turned over to the person who guesses at the same time, then the person with the fewest characters in the clue is allowed to give it first. As a result, the phrase “less is more” introduces a particular “pay your luck” character, as a balance must be struck between “what can I leave out?” and “What is still understood at all?”.

However, once the clue is flipped, the guesser has exactly one attempt to guess the exact term. If you succeed, the person who guessed and the person who gave the clue will get victory points equal to the size of the game deck. If the term is guessed later, points are deducted for every other clue being discovered. If the guesser fails to guess the term based on the clues, all hints receive a point and the guesser gets no point.

Once everyone is guessing, the game is over. The person with the most winning points wins.
