Boeing delivered more than 50 planes to customers last month, up from 35 in April, though it is trailing rival Airbus in deliveries so far this year as the Paris Air Show approaches.
Deliveries included eight 787 Dreamliners. Boeing said last week that a new manufacturing defect — the second to be disclosed this year — will slow near-term deliveries of its wide-body jets, which are in high demand due to a rebound in international travel.
Boeing has delivered 206 aircraft so far this year 244 delivered by Airbus in the first five months of the year.
Both Boeing and Airbus have announced plans to ramp up production of new aircraft to meet strong demand in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
Arlington, Virginia-based Boeing reported total orders for 69 aircraft for the month of May, compared to 34 in April. After 11 cancellations, it sold 58 aircraft, mostly the 737 MAX.
