Blumenthaler SV relies on artificial intelligence for game analysis

Zeca Carvalho and his team from Constructor Sportstech have been teaming up with Blumenthaler SV U17 in the B-Junior Bundesliga for about a year. The partnership uses artificial intelligence and scientific methods to identify important match moments such as shots on goal and corner kicks using image recognition algorithms and evaluating them in video analysis. It will also allow for better processing and analysis of game data, examination of the team and its opponents, and predictions about expected goals and assists.

“We mainly focus on video analysis,” explains Carvalho. To do this, Blumenthaler SV records its games and feeds them into the system provided by Carvalho and his colleagues. “The system then recognizes individual players and the ball and saves them as a trace. This allows you to track action sequences and situations such as corner kicks or free kicks more quickly.” This makes it easier for the coaching staff to conduct analyzes with the team, but also with individual players.

At the same time, the system also acts as a kind of library with search function. “For example, coaches want to look for situations where the goal was the result of a corner kick in order to draw conclusions for defenders. Then they no longer have to manually search for every video in which this was the case, it takes taking care of their system in terms of “For them.” Blumenthaler SV does not have to pay anything; Constructor Sportstech provides them with the tool as a promotional measure and uses the same cooperation to draw conclusions to improve its own system.
