The cast of “Bob Marley: One Love”
Lashana Lynch (“The Woman King,” “No Time to Die”) stars as Rita’s wife.
“The cast and crew, which includes many Jamaican actors, deliver a unique cinematic experience that captures the essence of the spirit of the legend,” Ziggy Marley, son of Bob and Rita Marley, who is also a co-producer of the film, said in remarks. In a press release.
Among them: Aston Barrett Jr., son of Wheelers bassist Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who passed away in 2019. The younger Barrett will play his father in the film and also carry on his father’s legacy, leading and playing drums for The Wailers, currently on tour.
“Nothing happened before the time was right and now it’s time to bring the story of our father Bob Marley to life in a theatrical biopic release coming in 2024,” Ziggy Marley said in a note posted on Instagram. “You heard the music and you think you know the man but do you really understand what he went through and what moments shaped him into the person he became. … This movie will make you witness for the first time what it was like to be around the legend, to see his pain, his sorrows his joys and his salvation” .
Also co-producing: Rita Marley and his daughter Cedella Marley, plus Brad Pitt, Robert Tittle (“Notorious,” “Barbershop”), Jeremy Kleiner (“Moonlight”), and Dede Gardner (“If Beale Street Could Talk”). Marley, wife of Ziggy, executive producer as Richard Hewitt (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) and Matt Solodky, general manager of Tuff Gong Worldwide, which handles Ziggy Marley’s record label.
