Behind the scenes: What you won't see at the 2024 Oscars

LOS ANGELES (AP) — There's a whole other show happening off screen At the Oscars Which the home audience doesn't see on TV. here What the Associated Press saw Which was not captured by cameras.

The Oscars ceremony starts at seven o'clock?

Things got off to a late start, about 6 minutes behind schedule and not everyone was in their seats by the start of the show. Martin Scorsese, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were among the last people seated at approximately 7:06 PM EST. Carey Mulligan missed the animated cut and wiped out Jimmy Kimmel's opening monologue Supporting Actress Award She stands to the side, but she had her husband Marcus Mumford there to keep her company.

3 minutes to chat

At the first commercial break, people got out of their seats to find their friends. Emma Stone immediately found her longtime friend Jennifer Lawrence, and the two ran out the hour laughing and waving wildly as their husbands looked on.

Greta Gerwig turned to Robbie and America Ferrera, all in good spirits after the supporting actress award went to D'Avene Joy Randolph. And yes, Mulligan and Mumford finally found their seats.

Emma Stone is leaving at the wrong time

Emma Stone He was at the lobby bar with a glass of champagne in hand when “Poor Things” won best production design. She screamed, jumping up and down, and watched the speech with interest.

Then she turned to Florence Pugh, standing nearby and the two talked excitedly about Pugh's “sprinkled dress.”

Suddenly, Pogue laughed and looked at the screen to see a semi-naked John Cena. “Oh, that's because it looks like an Oscar!”

A few seconds later, “Poor Things” also won the costume design award, and Stone jumped up and screamed again.

“I miss them all,” she cried. “It's not okay, it's bad, I'm going home.”

Greta Gerwig and fashion designers

In the hallway, Gerwig had a fan who wanted to talk to her about something very specific: Ann Roth's appearance in the Barbie movie.

“I want you to know how important this is to me,” said Eduardo Castro, a member of the academy’s board of directors, who is in the Fashion Designers branch.

Roth, 92, played the woman on the bench in the movie “Barbie,” a role Kimmel emulated in his opening credits. She's a two-time Academy Award winner for “The English Patient” and “Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.”

Castro, whose credits include “Ugly Betty” and “Bride and Prejudice,” said he considers Roth a mentor.

“She’s special,” Gerwig said. “She said, ‘Greta, I don’t know if I can do it, I can’t do it!’” Just give me a martini.

“She loves martinis,” Castro laughed.

At that point, Noah Baumbach, Gerwig's husband, had made his way to her and they made their way to the bar. (But they didn't order a martini.)

Kinergy in the lobby (and on stage)

About a half-hour before Gosling turned the Oscars into a very entertaining concert for a few precious minutes, Caine was out in the lobby warming up. Some were wearing cowboy hats, they were stretching, some were running in place, and everyone was finding their energy.

During the show, the Dolby Theater took on the feel of a Taylor Swift concert, with everyone in the room standing up and doing a spontaneous, cheerful dance. The biggest fan in the room was Gerwig, who got her personal Kane straight to her face.

During a commercial break, Mark Ronson found his way to Gerwig, Robbie and a crowd of fans. The whole room was buzzing long after the show, Ronson perhaps most of all – he returned to his seat proudly wearing the pink Kane T-shirt he'd been wearing for the rest of the show.

Open moment

The Oppenhomies stayed on stage for a few minutes after the cameras went off, hugging and celebrating all the wins. Downey raised his glass while doing some fist pumps. Among the last to take the stage were Emily Blunt and Kimmel, who chatted casually and walked off.

When the show is over, the evening has just begun

On the way to the Governors Ball, Cord Jefferson was beaming as he walked through the lobby, jumping and clutching his Oscar. Kate McKinnon spent a moment with Marlee Matlin and Steven Spielberg and they stepped out wearing a mask.

Although Gerwig and Barbie returned home mostly empty-handed, she was in high spirits, still singing “I'm Just Ken,” which she described as “legendary.”
