Bambu Lab's 3D printing technology in Luna Park Melbourne's ghost train restoration

Luna Park Melbourne It has successfully completed the first part of the comprehensive restoration of the iconic Ghost Train, one of the oldest operating dark attractions in the world. The restoration was undertaken to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Ghost Train and was led by Edouard Felix and his creative team. The focus of the project was the use of modern 3D printing technology, which allowed for a precise and detailed restoration of the historic landmark.

Built in 1934 by the Pretzel Amusement Ride Company, the Ghost Train is a unique piece of theme park history and the last remaining ride of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. In order to preserve the charm of this amphitheater while incorporating modern technology, Luna Park turned to Felix.

“The Ghost Train revival was a rare opportunity to honor a historic treasure while breathing new life into it,” said Edward Felix. “We wanted to stay true to the ride’s roots while ensuring it remains an exciting experience for guests of all ages. Thanks to Bambu Lab’s 3D printing technology, we were able to achieve a level of detail and customization that was unimaginable when the ride opened.”

Every part of the restoration, from decorative lighting elements to scenic details, was created using 3D printers. The use of this technology not only ensured that the nostalgic appearance of the Ghost Train was maintained, but also ensured modern efficiency and longevity of the new components.

“Using Bambu Lab’s 3D printers allowed us to create a completely new experience for the ride while ensuring that all parts were easy to maintain and replace,” Felix said. “The printers worked tirelessly, producing everything from the bespoke book covers in the new library scene to realistic sconces and even structural elements hidden from view. Without them, Cone would have been a tribute to the garden’s ghost, the White Lady.” This renovation is more than just a modernization – It is a celebration of Luna Park's rich history and a commitment to keeping that history alive in a way that a modern audience can appreciate. We are pleased to work with Edward and his team on this project.
