Dusseldorf Bain has been growing faster than the competition for years. In mid-February, company president Manny Maceda orchestrated a private coup: the management consulting firm struck a collaboration with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. With this so-called service alliance, Bain is clearly positioning itself in the growth sector of artificial intelligence ahead of the first two numbers on the consulting scene: McKinsey and Boston Consulting.
In an interview with Handelsblatt, Maceda explains for the first time how the deal came about and how the first customer, Coca-Cola, uses the collaboration. The potential for this new technology is “wide,” Maceda said. It can mean “some kind of industrial revolution”.
For Maceda, who has been leading Bain since 2018 and wants to become a global leader, AI offers huge growth potential: “The interest in ChatGPT is greater than anything I’ve seen before,” says the CEO. Everyone was interested: software companies, financial service providers, consumer goods companies, and healthcare organizations.
