Apple employs to build its own extra chips and components

Apple is said to have stepped up efforts to bring more product parts to the iPhone locally. According to a new report by Bloomberg, Apple is currently developing a new office that will focus on creating in-house chips instead of the offices provided by Broadcom and Skyworks.

The report explains that Apple employs “a few dozen people” to make chips in Irvine, California. Incidentally, it is close to where Skyworks and Broadcom offices are located. Apple is looking for employees with “experience with modem chips and wireless semiconductors”.

In addition Bloomberg Hiring new Irvine offices means working with wireless radios, radio frequency integrated circuits and the wireless system. The team will also focus on semiconductors to connect to Bluetooth and WiFi.

The report points out that this is part of a broader strategy to expand satellite offices, allowing the technology company to target engineering centers and attract employees who do not want to work from its Silicon Fence site. This approach will help Apple achieve its goal of creating its own components.

The initiative is based on Apple’s previous work on wireless chips. AirPods and Apple Watch already allow custom components to be attached to devices, and the ultra-whiteband U1 chips on Apple’s latest iPhones accurately locate your location and integrate with AirTag accessories and other products.

Apple and Broadcom reached a two-year agreement in January 2020. Under the agreement, Broadcom agreed to provide additional wireless components to Apple. Broadcom provided Apple with radio frequency components and modules for the iPhone prior to the deal, so the 2020 deal marked the expansion of the relationship between Broadcom and Skyworks.

Skyworks has relied on Apple for more than half of its revenue in recent years. However, earlier this year the company reduced its dependence on Apple with a separate $ 2.75 billion acquisition deal, and relying on one company is an important step, especially since it has now arrived that this (supposedly) decision will start to create their own designs for other components to the public.

In recent years, Apple has been betting to build its own components, and the iPhone and, more recently, Macs’ CPUs are already in its own development. In 2019, the company acquired Intel’s smartphone modem business. It still buys modems for iPhones from Qualcomm, only switching to native modems To happen in 2023.
