Amazon Prime Release Review – Movie Plus Review – Online Magazine for Movies & Cinema

Frequently, shipping giant Amazon, unlike its rival Netflix, appears to focus less on quantity and more on quality – as long as one talks about the region of origin. Of course, even on Amazon, not all the originals that are presented to viewers are gold, but here they seem to have a knack for either getting into a promising project in time or picking it up under the nail afterwards.

With such an introduction, it appears that the path this review will take has been clearly defined. Indeed, there is little negativity to be said about Melanie Laurent’s new director lineup. Perhaps the German title, unfortunately often, gets a little used, if one thinks of the original title “Le Bal des Folles”, which translates to “The mad ball” (hence the English title “The mad women’s ball”).

But well, those involved in the project could not help the excesses of private German distributors when choosing a title. So let us devote ourselves at this point to those decisions that are in the hands of the officials. Then there is the story. At least to some extent, because as with book adaptations, the screenwriter’s freedom is somewhat limited. However, you have a feeling that a lot of sensitivity and a good sense of proportion have been shown here in order to best adapt this oppressive, poignant, and somehow uplifting story on screen. After a short time she gets excited about the young heroine, wishes she can escape the nightmare shelter again, and feels with her when she sees the ability to talk to the dead as a burden rather than a gift. Time and time again, one catches one’s breath in the pictures shown, which at the time were probably less frightening than fairy tales than the grim reality of the inmates of such a facility.

But in addition to dread, there is also hope. Thanks to a show that allows the audience, just like the characters, to see the great in the little things. Thanks to the secondary characters that look so authentic and well-drawn that you can feel them right away. And thanks to the lead actress (Lou de Laage), who has yet to appear in many films in her filmography, but is clearly one of the shining new stars of the French film company.

You can realize that the criticism points for this successful business are manageable and actually belong to the “high level complaint” domain. Of course, one can question some of the scenario decisions, for example whether the protagonist’s abilities could not have been more paradoxical. Or perhaps a few other narrative threads might not have received attention either. But like I said, if you look at the whole business, you’re going to have to talk about licking rather than proper criticism.

conclusion:

“Die Tendenden” is a sensitive and powerful drama that takes the viewer to another time, another place, and lets you experience the agony, but also the joys of the characters, and this finally gives you a glimmer of hope that “different” doesn’t have to mean “dangerous” all the time and everyone automatically.

“Die Tenzenden” since 17.9. Viewed on Amazon Prime.
