Alan Wake’s story follows the writer who gave the game its name. He is a famous novelist who has a strong hindrance to writing his next book and travels on vacation to the small town of Bright Falls with his wife.
After a quarrel, Alan’s wife is kidnapped by a mysterious force imprisoned in the city and needs the writer’s creativity to navigate the pages of a story he doesn’t remember writing. The narrative is full of surreal suspense and features strong influences from the big names in the genre, such as Stephen King and David Lynch.
The gameplay of the game includes exploration, although the game areas are not very open, as well as moments of combat with weapons. The mysterious force does not confront Alan directly, but succeeds in corrupting the townspeople into becoming her servants and attacks the writer. To fight them, you need to use a flashlight to weaken them and then shoot. Along the way, lit places, such as the lower pillars, are the only safe points.

The remastered version brings remastered game visuals with improved textures and effects, as well as support for 4K resolution. Alan Wake Remastered also includes two DLC packs from the original game, The Signal and The Writer, which complete the story. The game even received a spin-off, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, in which the writer confronts his evil version, but it wasn’t a sequel. The events of Alan Wake are also mentioned in the story of Control as a shared universe.
