Tudor unveiled a new color version of the Black Bay GMT at Watches and Wonders Geneve 2023.

Speaking of the Black Bay GMT, it is a popular model with a very functional GMT mechanism that allows you to independently set the hour hand and a bezel in a distinctive color. The same business that appeared in 2018 has added a matte brown x black with 18k yellow gold bezel in 2022. This is the 3rd color variation.

The color scheme for this product is a combination of the standard blue x burgundy bezel and opaline dial for the first time in the series. It’s easy to think that it’s just a different color of the dial, but today Tudor is trying to differentiate between current models with different specifications.

The galvanic-finished opaline dial has a matte silver-tone that leaves a grainy texture. The tool feel of the watch has faded with the black dial, and the impression is more like a multipurpose watch. The character is so different from the current model that it’s hard to believe it’s just a different color.

Many people worry that reducing color contrast will lead to poor visibility in this work, which combines a white dial with white hour and minute hands. However, you don’t have to worry at all because it’s Tudor.

This is because the bezels of the hour, minute and second hands are painted black. As a result, a contrast is created between the hands and the dial, and the hands themselves have a clear boundary between the phosphorescent coating and the bezel, which makes it possible to read the time even under a strong light source.

So far, I have mainly talked about changes, but the elements inherited from the current model are also a great attraction to the work itself. The high reliability of the compact manufacturing movement, Cal. MT5652, loud as ever, with a daily difference of -2 to +4 sec/day, which is above COSC chronometer certification, excellent power in ease of use with a time of about 70 hours, has a reserve and is also magnetically resistant thanks to the silicon hairspring.

Also, as I mentioned at the beginning, GMT has excellent operability. Additionally, the balance of weight between the head and the bracelet is just right, and has perfection that is arguably first-rate among current GMT watches. The only drawback is its availability.
