A milestone in architecture and technology

In a workshop Over AG Column elements for the White Tower of Mulegns in Savonen are currently being prepared. This project is known as “Alpha Gate“, is a collaboration between ETH Zurich and various cultural and industrial partners to promote innovative, digital and resource-efficient construction.

Since the first parts went into print on January 16, 2024 at Hönggerberg in Zurich, the project has made significant progress. Column elements now being assembled at Val Surses will form the foundation of what will soon become the tallest 3D printed tower in the world. The association between the university and the cultural institution allows an intense exchange of knowledge and experience, significantly advancing the culture of digital construction.

Uffer AG, responsible for assembling the column modules, appreciates the use of 3D printing technology in construction for an efficient and environmentally friendly structure. This technology allows structures to be manufactured precisely and in a material-efficient manner, which not only reduces costs but also reduces environmental impact.

A media orientation planned for May 17, 2024 provides an ideal opportunity to learn more about the challenges and next steps of this innovative project. Speakers such as Professor Dr. Benjamin Dillenberger and Michael Hansmeier, the tower's architects, will provide deeper insights into the technical aspects and architectural vision.

This project contributes to revitalizing the mountain village of Muligens, promoting sustainable tourism and strengthening the regional economy. Thus, the White Tower is an example of how modern technology and traditional values go hand in hand to promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life in remote areas.
