ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — A Round Rock teen and his gaming partner won an international Fortnite competition in Denmark on Sunday, taking home $1 million in prize money.
Cooper Smith“, 16, competed with his 19-year-old partner from Michigan, Matthew.”MiroVettel, V Fortnite Champion Series 2023 In Copenhagen, Denmark as of October. 13 until October 15, beating dozens of the best Fortnite players from around the world.
“I did a lot of preparation. I mean I was playing six to eight hours a day [and] “I keep an eye on others,” Smith said. “We didn’t expect to win at all. To be honest, we came into this tournament, probably expecting to finish 15th. And I think, you know, we came out on top.”
Fortnite came out in 2017 and quickly became one of the most recognizable names in eSports. The game is a “Battle Royale” concept, which involves 100 players on a map fighting to be the last one standing. Via Xbox description.
Smith said it was a long weekend of games, starting with the playoffs on Friday and ending with the finals on Sunday.
“I was playing all day,” Smith said.
Although this is the biggest competition he has won, Smith is no newbie. It has already accumulated Over 22k followers on Twitchwhich is a streaming platform where viewers can watch gamers playing eSports, winning other Fortnite competitions.
