A TV series set in the “Legally Blonde” universe is in development on Amazon Prime Video. diverse He confirmed it.
No plot details are available, but the project is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, with Schwartz and Savage also writing. Witherspoon has starred in two “Legally Blonde” films and will executive produce under the Hello Sunshine banner alongside Lauren Neustadter. Hello Sunshine is part of Candle Media. Schwartz and Savage executive produce via Fake Empire. Marc Platt, the films' producer, will also executive produce. Amazon MGM Studios will produce.
It was previously reported that Amazon was looking to develop new projects based on intellectual property they controlled after its acquisition of MGM in 2022. “Legally Blonde” was one of those projects, along with others like “Barbershop” and “Robocop.”
The first Legally Blonde movie was released in theaters in 2001. Witherspoon starred as Elle Woods, a fashion-focused sorority girl who decides to attend Harvard Law School in an attempt to win back her boyfriend. In the process, you discover a natural competence for the law.
The film was a huge success at the box office, grossing over $140 million worldwide. The sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde”, was released in 2003. A third direct-to-video film was released in 2009, although Witherspoon did not star in the title role but served as a producer. A musical based on the first film debuted on Broadway in 2007, earning several Tony and Drama Desk nominations.
Schwartz and Savage are best known for developing the hit school drama “Gossip Girl,” which aired on The CW for six seasons. Schwartz also created the Fox drama series “The OC,” for which Savage was an executive producer. The duo also produced the recent “Gossip Girl” reboot at Max and co-created shows like “City on Fire” for Apple TV+ and “Nancy Drew” for the CW.
