A former rock musician has been arrested after human remains were found during the search for his missing girlfriend

A former rock musician has been arrested on murder charges in the death of his missing girlfriend after human remains were found in a wooded area in California, police said.

Theobald “Theo” Lengyel, 54, was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Alice “Alex” Kamakaokalani Herman, 61, who was last seen Dec. 3 in Santa Cruz. Capitol Police Announced Tuesday.

The El Cerrito Police Department said her family reported her missing on December 12. The Capitol Police Department assumed the role of lead agency in the case, and investigators quickly suspected foul play, with Lengyel being a suspect.

Her car, a red 2007 Toyota Highlander, was found in front of her boyfriend's house in El Cerrito, police said. The authorities also said He “did not cooperate with the police investigation” and days after her disappearance, he was known to have driven from El Cerrito, California, to Portland, Oregon.

Eventually, investigators found human remains in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley, about 4 miles from El Cerrito. These remains are awaiting DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office.

Police did not share any details regarding the manner of death.

Lengyel was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail. It is not immediately clear whether he has legal representation.

Capitol Police said they are working with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney's Office “to ensure a thorough prosecution of the case.”
