This year's winning entry arose from Cisterna's research on a protein important for building the structure of brain cells (profilin 1, or PFN1); This structure is essential for functional cellular transport. he Found it When protein and its associated processes are disrupted, microtubule highways can become disrupted and cause cell damage. Capturing actin, microtubules and nuclei using light microscopy was a tedious process that took only about three months to master the staining process.
