After Mercedes-Benz had previously sent the new Van.AE platform onto the road as a mule under the chassis of the current V-Class, the chassis of the future series is now being used. However, the camouflage of the EQV successor to the W449 still shows few details.
The upcoming version of the electric V-Class from Mercedes-Benz will use the VAN.EA (Mercedes-Benz Van Electric Architecture), the series model of which will be sent to customers from 2026 under the name “V-Class with EQ Technology”. The previous designation “EQV” will no longer be used. Compared to its predecessor, the new model features a flatter front apron – which is camouflaged with a bodywork in Erlkönig – and a windshield with a slightly lower slope and the roof line also grows slightly wider in the lower area.
The new VAN.EA architecture uses 800V technology for the first time and consists of a front unit with an electric motor, a middle unit with a high-voltage battery installed there and a rear unit. The second electric motor is mounted in the rear unit of the all-wheel drive versions, which remains empty in the purely front-wheel drive models. The manufacturer is aiming for a range of over 500 kilometres, with the SoC recharging from 10 to 80 percent within 20 minutes.
With the new electric V-Class, it is also likely that the DRIVE PILOT system will be offered, as it is already known in the EQS and S-Class. However, automated driving according to SAE Level 3 will come later and will offer Level 2 functions only in the step The first.
