Stiftung Warentest takes a closer look at 14 VPN services Anyone who travels a lot in public places, and above all, open WiFi networks can still protect themselves. And through so-called virtual private networks, known as VPN services. On the one hand, they encrypt the user’s data traffic. On the other hand, they protect their privacy because their data is forwarded through the provider’s server. This obscures the identity and location of the surfer.
Stiftung Warentest takes a closer look at 14 VPN services (‘TEST’ version 6/21). Admittedly, none of them perform well, due to shortcomings in the lowercase letters. However, it is technically compelling compared to many providers whose services are available from around 2 to 4 euros per month. They include NordVPN (overall rating of 2.9), Surfshark VPN (3.0), and Windscribe (3.1) in the top three.
