Earthquake on Apple Watch? What’s Next?
Few of the games have been ported to all kinds of devices like Doom. It doesn’t matter if it’s a pregnancy tester or a tractor: if it has a processor, you can definitely run Doom on it. Even the Traktor Edition had a pretty amazing purpose. You can read more about it here:
The legendary shooter that runs everywhere: even pregnancy tests can still be passed!
Quake ports, on the other hand, are a bit rare, but no less impressive. Developer Thomas MyOwnClone Vymazal
I managed to get the game to work on the Apple Watch and it does to play
if you want to call it that.
Great performance, but hard to handle
First of all, use Vymazal Apple Watch Series 5 for the port, based on the open source versions of Quake for iOS and Mac OS. The game runs at 60 frames per second and has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.
A higher resolution can also be obtained at a lower frame rate, although it is doubtful whether a higher resolution on such a small screen provides you with any added value. The game can be controlled using the on-screen buttons, the digital crown (the wheel on the side of the smartwatch) and even the gyroscope.
You can use touch inputs to move the character forward, aim and shoot using the same controls. The Digital Crown can be used to search up and down. You can change the motion controls at any time to operate and steer with the gyroscope.
You can see what it all looks like in the creator’s YouTube video:

As you can imagine, this type of control isn’t the best for a fast-paced shooter like Quake, but one thing is for sure: it’s at least playable!

It is currently only available via GitHub and also requires some basic programming knowledge if you want to install Quake on your Apple Watch yourself. Whether there will be an official Quake release for watchOS is somewhat questionable.
It’s amazing how creative and innovative these outlets are and how far our technology has come. While you need a full PC to play Quake, Doom & Co. Your watch today is enough.
If a player can beat Dark Souls 3 with a banana, they can also play through Quake on the Apple Watch. Wondering how to play Dark Souls with Bananas? We have the answer ready for you:
