Stadia is de facto dead: Google removes the ‘Gaming’ tab from its store

Yesterday evening, the search engine giant from Mountain View, California held a Google I / O developer conference and presented not only Android 13 in more detail, but also a lot of new devices. That wasn’t good news for Stadia, though.

Google Stadia’s game streaming service had a hard time right from the start, but it’s been scratching the surface of complete insignificance for several months. That is why many have been wondering for a long time whether and when Google will give the coup on the unsuccessful offer.

Of course, this is not so easy, because many players have purchased games through Stadia and want to continue to use these titles. That’s why Google can’t pull the plug this way. But what is quite possible: the giant search engine can deeply hide Stadia and thus reduce activities to a minimum.

The Games tab is hidden.

And now this has probably happened: because with the introduction of the new devices, Google also made changes to its store. As noted by 9to5Google, the company has removed the previously separate gaming tab and replaced it with a new section for Pixel Buds, the company’s headphones.

The Games tab has been around, or rather has been, since 2020 and has been the port of call for Stadia in particular. Until now. Although the site design changes regularly, games have always had their consistent section. But with the launch of Pixel Buds Pro yesterday, this gaming tab is now a thing of the past.

Stadia hasn’t completely disappeared from the Google Store, of course, but now it’s — far from happy or appropriately — tucked away in the “smart home” section. There you can see the “Games” or console button, which also takes you to the Stadia page, where you can get the console, accessories, packages, and information about the stream. In short: Stadia is still around, but it’s tucked away in Google’s closet at the far back.
