As part of CES, we will look at the new HDMI standard, but not HDMI 3.0, but HDMI 2.1a. This will not ease the current mess with HDMI 2.X, but there is some good news as well.
Depending on the device and manufacturer, HDMI 2.1a can be submitted via the update (if HDMI 2.1 is available). Why half? Well, we know the TV manufacturers’ update policy, no hope.

HDMI 2.1a comes with SBTM
Introducing HDMI 2.1a SBTM (Source Based Tone Mapping). This means, quite simply, that HDR content can be better displayed because the processing is already taking place to some extent on the source (eg box or console).
More details about SBTM are available On the official HDMI websiteHowever, as with other HDMI 2.1 functionalities, manufacturers do not have to support it, even though it is theoretically developed in HDMI 2.1. Yes, HDMI is complex and HDMI 2.1a does not make it easy for normal users.
