ZDF has adopted the principles of editorial use of generative artificial intelligence. The topic Artificial Intelligence was rated into nine points in total. The most important message: Generative AI tools can support the work of editorial teams, but they cannot replace them.
Bettina Schusten, Editor-in-Chief of ZDF: “Reliable and verified information is more important than ever due to the great dynamics in the field of generative AI. To be able to use the opportunities of AI in everyday work, we have to be aware of the risks. That’s why we need guardrails to use the technology we have now adopted for ZDF.”
For example, content created on ZDF with the support of generative AI – when relevant to journalism – becomes visible to users. Data protection also plays an important role: generative AI tools should not be enriched with sensitive data (e.g. personal data, data from third parties, company secrets). Exceptions to this rule are only possible after prior review by the editorial team.
