Microsoft is bringing its cloud gaming service to another platform. The company announced that starting in July, the Xbox Cloud Gaming app can also be downloaded on existing models of Amazon Fire TV Sticks.

But this only works for both models Fire TV Stick 4K Max (from €63.90) (2023) and Fire TV Stick 4K (from €45.96) (2023). Microsoft's cloud gaming offering is currently not available with older models. In addition to the Amazon stick, you also need a Bluetooth controller that you have to connect to the stick. The games streamed through it are then controlled.
Aside from that, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription is required. Many, but not all, Game Pass games are then available via the cloud. Additionally, you should make sure you have a stable WLAN network so that you can play in the cloud largely free of latency and stuttering.
Cloud gaming as an application
Xbox Cloud Gaming (formerly known as xCloud) is already available as an app for current Sony TVs, and can also be played on consoles, in the browser, as a Windows app, and as an Android app. There's also an app for Meta's Quest headset that lets you access Microsoft's service.
In contrast to the native TV app, the Fire TV Stick has the advantage of portability: it can be taken to a hotel, for example, if you don't want to miss your games there. It's still unclear why the app only runs on newer devices and whether Microsoft wants to make improvements here. The exact release date of the app is also still unknown, Microsoft wrote in a statement Blog entry Only from July.
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs €15 per month. In addition to cloud gaming, it provides access to a large library of games that can also be played locally on computers and consoles.
