WWE legend Edge bowed out to conclude Friday Night’s SmackDown by defeating Sheamus in front of his hometown crowd.
Edge pulled himself out of the corner, charging Sheamus and as they met in the center of the ring, he jumped up and brought the Celtic Warrior to the mat with his signature spear.
The crowd in Toronto, which included Edge’s wife – fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix – and two daughters, gave the “R8 Superstar” a standing ovation as the referee raised his hand in victory. Edge walked to the ropes and kissed his family.
His first confrontation is against Sheamus, an old friend. The two shared an embrace after the match, which celebrated Edge’s career in WWE for 25 years.
There was speculation before the fight that this would be Edge’s farewell. He is 49 years old Tell ET Canada that his SmackDown appearance was the last on his WWE contract, but he wasn’t sure about his future in the sport.
He previously retired in 2011 due to neck injuries, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2012 and returned at the 2020 Royal Rumble. He had an electric appearance at 2022’s WrestleMania 38 where he defeated AJ Styles with a spear.
Once the SmackDown broadcast ended, Edge addressed the crowd with an attempt to answer their questions.
“I don’t know what the future holds,” he said, “I really don’t.” “I have to sit at home this week, lick my wounds, talk to my family and see what they want me to do.”
Although he did not directly announce his retirement, Edge had some certainty.
“What I can say is that this is the last time before you,” He said The crowd also booed. “…I’m just being honest with you. But don’t let that be depressing. Because, man, one experience you gave me all. I’ll never forget.”
