It’s amazing how creative some fans online are when it comes to finding information about upcoming games or content for their favorite franchises. Because in addition to the many stories in the past, there is currently another intriguing discovery that is very likely to provide us with preliminary information about the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.
Accordingly, World of Warcraft’s next retail expansion will be “Dragonflight”. World of Warcraft: Dragonflight – which is almost the only limitation to mention here – may still be an internal title that will be changed before the official presentation in a couple of weeks. However, we consider this unlikely.
Blizzard notified the Warcraft community on March 7 with a roadmap that includes several key dates throughout Spring 2022, with news announced and the start of events in various games in the Warcraft universe. In this context, we have also learned that the next WoW Retail expansion will be officially revealed on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
But two weeks ago, we now know the name at least. Dragon Journey. Regarding the content, unfortunately there is not much material that has been disclosed. The leak, which can no longer be independently verified, only contains a reference to three releases as well as the name of the upcoming expansion. Regardless of the location of the discovery, which we’ll discuss in a moment, that doesn’t seem so far-fetched, given that Blizzard has regularly offered several versions of WoW expansions for sale in the past.
This is how it’s meant to be again with World of Warcraft: Dragonflight. According to the information found, the “WoW Dragonflight Heroic” version and the “WoW Dragonflight Epic” version will be available for purchase in addition to the basic version, which will likely come with various rewards. It is not known if the game “Epic” is a Collector’s Edition or not. However, it should be possible to upgrade from any version to the next higher version.
This is how the leak happened
As already mentioned in the beginning, the creativity behind the user’s idea of searching for information is not yet revealed at all at this point and in this way this discovery is to be commended.
A WoW fan managed to find a link in the page source code of the official WoW homepage, which in turn points to a .js file that can be called in the browser and contains a lot of code. In this code, the name “WoW Dragonflight” has been hidden multiple times and is indicated there as a pre-sale planned product with product numbers and connected to the store.
In the meantime, Blizzard has removed these entries from the corresponding file, which in turn leads us to assume that something is actually to be found.
This leak, which comes directly from Blizzard, is summarized and shown in the video by creator “MrGM”:
It reproduces the way there earlier, where the corresponding lines can still be found, and also shows another substance that only further strengthens the doubt about the authenticity of the leak.
In addition to the text in the Blizzard profile on the World of Warcraft homepage, there are screenshots from an Instagram story that showed multiple forms of artwork that not only displayed the “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” logo, but Alexstrasza can also be seen in both Human and Dragon.
This artwork in turn can be linked to many of the .bmp image files that were incorporated into World of Warcraft as part of patch 9.2.5.42850. It hasn’t been named yet, but its design is similar to Alexstrasza’s artwork mentioned above.
The WoW Champion platform also found additional evidence of the originality of the content, which, in addition to the previously mentioned files and lines of code, revealed other testimonials said to be related to the “dragonflight.blizzard.com” domain. You can find all the details about him here. On the same platform, there was already a post in the forum on February 8th of this year, who wants to know more detailed information about the upcoming expansion.
Including: the main villain, details about new and revised regions, details about changes to existing and even new classes, new professions, new capital and more. If all this is true, there are hardly any secrets left for the next add-on. Since we don’t want to spoil you too much and question the veracity of this information, there’s only one here Link to the relevant thread in the MMO Champion forum-In case you want to read all this for yourself.
Disclaimer: Please note that despite all the information, this is still an unconfirmed leak and of course its veracity has not been confirmed by Blizzard. Quite the contrary: the information is no longer available now.
In that exact respect, in terms of specific content for the next WoW Retail expansion, we’ll definitely find out more in a couple of weeks when Blizzard wants to drop the covers completely on April 19, 2022.
