With CMR technology: Toshiba announces a new 22TB hard drive – Networking and IT Infrastructure

Hard disk manufacturer Toshiba has announced a new 22TB hard disk drive. The new product in the MG10F series works with traditional magnetic recording, ten internal discs and a helium seal.

Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced the launch of the MG10F series 22TB hard disk drive. This is a conventional magnetic storage (CMR) hard drive based on Toshiba’s helium-sealed design with ten internal disks.

Therefore, the new hard drive has ten percent more storage capacity than the previous model. It was developed as a building block for cloud and storage infrastructure that must meet the growing storage needs of large enterprises. It can be used for a variety of applications and workloads – both in a traditional data center and in the cloud. The MG10F’s increased capacity of 22TB aims to simplify the build-out of cloud-scale infrastructures through greater storage capacity while maintaining roughly the same power requirements.

The MG10F Series SSDs rotate at 7200 RPM, are designed to handle a workload rate of 550TB per year, and are available with SAS 12G and SATA 6G interfaces. The hard drive is treated with a helium-sealed 3.5-inch form factor.

Sample shipments of the MG10F series of 22TB SSDs will begin immediately for SAS interface products and beginning in the fourth quarter of this year for SATA interface models.
